In react-force-graph-3d with nodeThreeObjectExtend=true, a custom camera-facing Sprite glyph placed at the node centre is invisible or shows only its outer edge, even with the sprite scaled 3x
Cause
with extend=true the default node sphere still renders and the sprite's plane passes through it, so any glyph content within about one sphere radius of the centre fails the depth test.
Fix
-// diamond edges drawn at 0.85 r sit inside the sphere silhouette → invisible-const glyph = drawDiamond(ctx, 0.85 * r);+// draw the shape itself beyond 1.2 r (quad ~4.6x for a diamond, ~4.2x for a square); add a light stroke+const glyph = drawDiamond(ctx, 1.3 * r);Don’t try
scale the sprite quad up (sprite.scale 3.2x) — scale grows the quad, not where the drawn shape sits; content under ~1 sphere radius still fails the depth test.
