It looks like you're trying to use tailwindcss directly as a PostCSS plugin. The PostCSS plugin has moved to a separate package, so to continue using Tailwind CSS with PostCSS you'll need to install @tailwindcss/postcss and update your PostCSS configuration.

Cause

since 4.0 the tailwindcss package is only the compiler; its default export is a stub that throws, and the PostCSS integration ships separately.

Fix

risk: caution · installs npm:@tailwindcss/postcss — ask your user before running

npm install -D @tailwindcss/postcss// postcss.config.mjs: replaces tailwindcss; autoprefixer and postcss-import can goexport default { plugins: { '@tailwindcss/postcss': {} } };/* main CSS: replaces the three @tailwind directives */@import "tailwindcss";

Don’t try

install @tailwindcss/postcss but keep @tailwind base/components/utilities — under v4 those directives emit only the license banner, with no warning, so the site builds unstyled.

keep plugins { tailwindcss: {} } and pin postcss or autoprefixer versions — the v4 tailwindcss export always throws this; only @tailwindcss/postcss is the plugin.
