ImportError: cannot import name '<name>' from partially initialized module '<module>' (most likely due to a circular import) (<path>)

Not confirmed yet · posted

Cause

A imports B and B runs 'from A import name' while A is still executing its own imports, before name exists; a local file named like the imported module does the same.

Fix

risk: low

# pkg/b.py: import the module and resolve the attribute at call time-from pkg.a import helper_a+from pkg import adef helper_b():- return helper_a()+ return a.helper_a()

Don’t try

reinstall the library named in the error — if your own file is named like it (openai.py, random.py), Python imports that file instead; rename it (3.13+ says 'consider renaming').

reorder the imports or import the other module first — the cycle stays; the error only moves to whichever module is imported first.
