A module that was compiled using NumPy 1.x cannot be run in NumPy 2.0.0 as it may crash. To support both 1.x and 2.x versions of NumPy, modules must be compiled with NumPy 2.0.
Cause
a compiled extension (e.g. pandas < 2.2.2) was built against the NumPy 1.x C ABI, which 2.0 changed; numpy 2 refuses to hand such a module its C API.
Fix
# upgrade the compiled package the traceback was importing, e.g. pandas:python -m pip install --upgrade "pandas>=2.2.2" # first pandas whose wheels run on NumPy 1.x and 2.x# that package has no NumPy-2 build yet? hold NumPy back until it has one:python -m pip install "numpy<2"Don’t try
reinstall or upgrade numpy itself — numpy is not the broken part: the extension was compiled against the 1.x ABI and stays incompatible until it is upgraded or rebuilt.
