Error: The module '<path>/<addon>.node' was compiled against a different Node.js version using NODE_MODULE_VERSION 127. This version of Node.js requires NODE_MODULE_VERSION 137.
Cause
a native addon (.node binary) is built for one Node ABI; after switching Node majors (here 22 to 24) the old binary is still in node_modules and the new runtime refuses to load it.
Fix
npm rebuild # re-runs install scripts: addons compile or fetch a prebuild for this Node# npm 12+ runs dependency install scripts only when approved:# npm install-scripts approve <addon> && npm rebuild# still failing: rm -rf node_modules && npm ciDon’t try
npm install with node_modules already in place — npm only builds packages it adds or changes, so the stale binary is skipped; npm rebuild re-runs the install scripts.
share one node_modules between the host and a container or CI image on another Node version or OS — the addon is built for the runtime that installed it; install or rebuild inside each environment instead.
